Bob and I (Pauline) had been married for 42 years, when he passed away from lung cancer. We have 3 children and 8 grandchildren. We were living on the beautiful Central Coast of California where the weather is just perfect for raising birds. When he passed away (Nov. 2004) I moved back to Bakersfield to be near my family.

We purchased a male cockatiel for me after waiting 18 years for our cat to go to heaven. And
then of course, the bird (we named him "Robin") loved Bob to pieces. He would fly into our bedroom each morning (we were naive and didn't trim his wings, but it was just the two of us at home), land on Bob, peck at him, fly to the shower and call out. If Bob didn't move fast

enough, Robin would fly back to him and peck at him until they got into the shower and sang "Old Mac Donald Had a Farm". After their shower, they went to the living room where Robin would "help" Bob put on his shoes.

This went on as routine until one day I went "brain dead" and left a door open in the living room because it was so warm. When Robin came out of the bedroom into the living room and saw the open door, he was out and gone before we realized what was happening. We drove around the neighborhood for hours looking for him and calling out to him but it was too late. Even though he was well loved and had a good home, his natural instincts took over and he was gone.

I advertised with all of our local newspapers and radio stations but we never found Robin. We did, however, get a lot of calls from people offering to give me a bird that they found or one that they could no longer take care of or wanted. So, I took them ALL in. I was in heaven! I had so many wonderful new birds. We ended up keeping some and for the others we found good homes. That is how we got started with bird breeding and bird rescue.

We ended up having 25 breeding pairs of cockatiels. They all had names and were so
much fun. But when I made the move I could not bring all 350 birds ( I had finches, canaries, parakeets, lovebirds, doves, quail, conures, lories, indian ringnecks and

cockatiels) with me so I ended up just bringing about 30 and they are all large hook bill birds.

Also, because we had taken so many birds for consignment sales, we have been exposed
to and come to enjoy some wonderful birds. In fact, my personal favorite is the double yellow head Amazon. I got my first one in 2001 and hand fed her from about 1 week Her name is Daisy and she is the light of my life, she says about 700 words sings and meows

like my cat.

I even have a routine for feeding my babies. I can feed 35-40 birds in only 45 minutes. During their feedings, I play with them and give them lots of love. I feed in groups and as I feed them, I put them onto my shoulders to perch. I have so many on me at one time that I look like a tree!

In my spare time, I enjoy reading and spending time with my children and grandchildren. I work just part time as a bookkeeper but can only do a couple hours at a time. I love my birds and I'm never alone.

There are times that Daisy sounds so much like Bob I know he is haunting me. Since coming back to Bakersfield I am still breeding some birds and enjoy seeing them get good homes. I am also now in a relationship with my high school sweetheart. We reconnected after years apart and still love each other after all these years. He lives in another town so we don't see each other as often as we would like.

I hope you enjoy the website and if you have any questions please feel free to email me. I don't know it all but I've been at this now for about 20 something years.
